Mac OS X 10. 5 Leopard: 4-Sight FAX v7.0.5. supports Leopard. Click here for current issues.
Documentation: The 4-Sight FAX Server v7 Administrator's Guide is found in the Documentation folder under the 4-Sight Fax Server 7 folder after 4-Sight FAX Server v7 is installed.
Note: The 4-Sight FAX Client must be installed onto each client machine locally. The 4-Sight FAX Client should not be installed from a network file server in order to avoid potential problems in the 4-Sight FAX print driver and in Fax Client Preferences.
Xserve users: The DB-9 serial port on the Xserve is intended as a serial console connection or a UPS connection. By default, the serial port is not configured to recognize a serial modem and will not operate as expected with a serial modem. Some hackers have attempted to overcome this limitation but we recommend using one or more USB modems with a USB hub to accommodate them.
4-Sight FAX v6 users: Class 2 modems are supported in 4-Sight FAX v6; Class 1 modems are not. The G3 iMac, G3 PowerMac and most G4 PowerMacs, except the "mirrored door" model, have Class 2 internal modems. All other Macs, including the G4 eMac & G4 iMac, have Class 1 internal modems and are not supported in 4-Sight FAX v6. The Apple USB External modem is a Class 1 modem and is not supported in 4-Sight FAX v6. Support for both Class 1 and Class 2 modems is a new feature of 4-Sight FAX v7.

Modem Requirements
4-Sight FAX v7 supports both Class 2 and Class 1 data/fax modems. For customers who have a demanding fax environment, we recommend MultiTech's serial or USB Class 2 ZBA or DID V.92 data/fax modems. As noted in the December 18, 1995 issue of Infoworld, "A Class 2 data/fax modem puts the workload on the modem's processing engine rather than on the host computer's hardware and fax software. The argument in favor of Class 2 data/fax modems is higher system performance as a whole because the computer handles less of the fax burden."
Note: The MultiTech MT 5634 ZBA-USB-V.92 modem requires firmware update 2.32i.
Please see our supported modem list and Apple Modem Considerations below.
Note: It is not necessary to configure modems in Mac OS X System Preferences -> Network. The default modem settings are perfectly acceptable to 4-Sight FAX and should not be changed. The only reason to visit System Preferences -> Network is to click Apply Now after a new modem has been added to the mix.
Apple Modem Considerations
Note: The Apple USB modem requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later. Mac OS X does not recognize more than one (1) Apple USB modem per computer. If additional Apple USB modems are attached, Mac OS X simply ignores them, which means that only one (1) Apple USB modem is available to 4-Sight FAX v7. This limit does not apply to modems from other manufacturers. 4-Sight FAX v7 can use both the Apple internal modem and the Apple USB modem at the same time. Information about the Apple USB modem is available at Apple USB Modem: FAQ. If you plan to use the Apple USB modem, it should be attached directly to a USB port on your computer rather than to the keyboard, monitor or an external USB hub.
Overall, Apple's modems come in a variety of flavors, so it is important to understand that some of Apple's modems are more capable than others. The table below shows several internal modems along with the Apple USB modem and lists the features that are available in 4-Sight FAX v7. Information about the internal modem on your Mac is found in Mac OS X System Profiler.

Inbound Routing, also known as DID capability, is an optional feature of 4-Sight FAX and is licensed separately. 4-Sight FAX does not support Inbound Routing on Class 1 modems.
