Migrating the Fax Server

Moving your 4-Sight FAX server to a new machine? Use this webpage to help you get your Server back up running on the new machine with all the data and settings from the old machine.

Fax Server Migration for 4-Sight FAX v8.0

  1. Copy the entire contents of your 4-Sight Fax “Server” folder into the “{Current User}->Documents/4-Sight FAX User Data/Server” folder on the new machine.
  2. Copy the “Server Preferences” file (located in “{Home}/Library/Preferences/4-Sight Fax” folder), to the same location on the new machine.
  3. Copy the new v8 “License” file provided to you into the “Fax Server Data” folder. This folder is located at the following location:     “{Current User}->Documents/4-Sight FAX User Data/Server/Fax Server Data”.
  4. If you have not provided Soft Solutions with the machine ID for your new Fax Server machine, then you will not have the new license information or a new “License” file. If this is the case, then please follow these steps:
    1. Quit the Fax Server (if it is running).
    2. Go to “{Current User}->Documents/4-Sight FAX User Data/Server” Folder.
    3. Delete the entire ‘Support’ folder and empty your Trash Bin.
    4. Navigate to the -> Fax Server Data Folder.
    5. Remove the License file from the Fax Server Data Folder.
    6. Relaunch the 4-Sight FAX Server. 4-Sight FAX will run in demo mode for now, but this will let you obtain the machine ID until a new license file is generated for you.
    7. From within the 4-Sight FAX application, select the Setup-> “Licensing…” menu.
    8. Select the “On-line Registration…” button and fill out the form in your Web browser. This will send us your information so we can activate your new license.
  5. Check and correct modem ports for each fax line within the Setup->Device Dialog.
  6. If an internal modem is used then it is best to use the “Detect” feature.
  7. Please read the appropriate section below entitled: “Changing Permissions on Mac OS 10.x.”

Fax Server Migration for v7.5

  1. Copy the entire “4-Sight Fax Server 7.5” folder to the “Applications” folder of the new machine.
  2. Copy the “Server Preferences” file (located in “{Home}/Library/Preferences/4-Sight Fax” folder), to the same location on the new machine.
  3. Copy the new “License” file to the “Fax Server Data” folder. If you have not provided Soft Solutions with the machine ID for this new Fax Server machine, then you will not have the new license information or a new “License” file. If this is the case, then please follow these steps:
    1. Quit the Fax Server (if it is running).
    2. Go to Applications -> 4-Sight FAX Server 7.5
    3. Delete the entire ‘Support’ folder and Empty your Trash Bin.
    4. Navigate to the -> Fax Server Data Folder.
    5. Remove the License file from the Fax Server Data Folder.

    7. Select the Setup-> “Licensing…” menu.
    8. Select the “On-line Registration…” button and fill out the form in your Web browser. This will send us your information so we can activate your new license.
  4. Check and correct modem ports for each fax line within the Setup->Device Dialog.
  5. If an internal modem is used then it is best to use the “Detect” feature.
  6. Please read the appropriate section below entitled: “Changing Permissions on Mac OS 10.x.”

NOTE: The process for migrating older versions of 4-Sight FAX Server (v6 & v7) follows the same steps as above, except you will require a new v7.5 License file or you will need to enter new serial / license numbers.
